We already started planning at the beginning of the year what presentations we could contribute to enrich the World Telecommunication Day event held in May. We wanted to report on the student developments around our satellite ground station, which had been handed over a year earlier. Man proposes, God disposes: an unexpected pandemic disrupted the organization of World Telecommunication Day in Győr. Although we hoped we would only need to stay away from our station, which we also consider our home, for a few days, we had to realize that we might not be able to set foot in the university for months. We therefore approached the organizers of World Telecommunication Day to adapt to the changed circumstances and move into the online space.

Our college members reported on their achievements and research in several presentations. Róbert Varga and Lajos Kéri presented the radio station built by the members of the HA1KHJ university radio club and SZESAT, with which they are able to communicate via the QO-100 satellite. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, so they not only talk about the difficulties of establishing the link, but also actually achieve it. As a plan for next year, transmitting a TV signal from the station has already been formulated.

Gábor Kiss was inspired by the space telecommunications ground station built last year to further develop antenna control. In his presentation, Gábor demonstrated the methods of satellite-tracking antenna control, the tools and software he used, and made his theoretical explanation credible with a short demonstration. The past year provided excellent operational experience for the students of the SZE-SAT college, of which Gábor is a pillar member.

In his presentation, Szilárd Takács gave an overview of the physiological effects of radio waves, a topic that has come back into focus not only with satellite technology but also with the emergence of the latest terrestrial technologies. Naturally, speculation about whether these waves could be dangerous to us began as soon as radio waves appeared. Unfortunately, due to external circumstances, some people drew firm conclusions from this speculation, which resulted in several transmission towers falling victim to vandalism. There are countless misconceptions, so the aim of the presentation was to summarize our current situation and dispel fears about 5G.

Péter Pataki became interested in collecting, reprogramming, and developing the software for meteorological radiosondes found around Győr. In his presentation, he gave a brief insight into the world of meteorological sondes, hoping that others would also get to know these techniques and their programming, since they hold a great deal of potential. His dream is not only to be able to collect sondes around our university, but also to be able to launch them.
