What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that is placed and stored on your computer, smartphone, or any other device providing internet access when you visit a website.

Cookies allow websites to recognize you, remember when you visit a specific site, establish a secure connection with the website, and enhance user experience and browsing convenience by tailoring internet content to your preferences and interests.

The information stored by cookies is linked for a specific period to the websites you open, the advertisements you clicked on, the browser program used, the information shared on a webpage, and, in certain cases, your IP address.

What types of cookies do we use and for what purposes?

Session cookies: these ensure the functioning of the website; their application is necessary for you to browse the site. They are automatically deleted at the end of the current session or upon closing the browser. During the visit to the website, the start and end times of the visit are automatically recorded, and in some cases—depending on the user's device settings—the type of browser and operating system. The system automatically generates statistical data from these, which the operator does not link to personal data.

System cookies: by visiting the website and using certain functions, the user gives consent for these cookies to be stored on their device and for the data controller to access them. You may request their deletion at any time, or configure your browser to prevent cookie-related activities. If disabled, certain services of the website may become unavailable.

Statistical cookies: these collect anonymized website usage statistics to allow us to design the website in accordance with visitor expectations. We keep track of the number of visitors, the number of pages viewed, activities performed on the website, and the frequency of return visits.

Tracking and advertising cookies: these allow us to better understand your interests and display personalized content. Their use requires your prior consent; access to the website is not affected if you do not consent.

Data provided via forms

The data provided by you on the Contact and Join forms (name, e-mail address, year of study, major, field of interest, message) are processed exclusively for the purpose of responding to inquiries and evaluating applications, based on your voluntary consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).

These data are not used for marketing purposes, are not transferred to third parties, and will be deleted upon the fulfillment of the purpose, or at the latest, upon the withdrawal of consent.

Embedded third-party content

The Live Data page displays camera images from idokep.hu, meteorological data from Weather Underground, and satellite tracking from N2YO; the website also features links to YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. These providers have their own privacy policies and may place their own cookies.

Your rights regarding data processing

Your data protection rights, legal remedies, and their limitations are detailed in the GDPR (especially Articles 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 77, 78, 79, and 82). You may request information about your data at any time, request their rectification, erasure, or restriction of processing, and object to processing based on legitimate interest.

Right to information: You may request information in writing at any time regarding the processing of your personal data.

Right to rectification: At your request, the University shall rectify inaccurate personal data concerning you.

Right to erasure: You may request the erasure of your personal data in writing. This does not apply if the processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation under Union or Member State law applicable to the University, or for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

Right to restriction: The data controller shall restrict processing upon the written request of the data subject, provided the appropriate conditions are met.

Right to withdraw consent: Consent may be withdrawn at any time, and the erasure of uploaded data may be requested. The withdrawal shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

Common rules for exercising rights: The University shall inform you in writing, in an intelligible form, of the measures taken or the refusal and the reasons thereof, without undue delay and within one month of receipt of the request. If necessary—taking into account the complexity and number of requests—this period may be extended by a further two months.

Legal enforcement options

Reporting to the authority: If you consider that a violation has occurred regarding the processing of your personal data, or there is an imminent threat thereof, you may initiate an investigation with the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH). Judicial remedy: In the event of unlawful data processing, you may initiate civil litigation against the data controller. The litigation falls within the jurisdiction of the regional court in Hungary; information on the jurisdiction of courts can be found at www.birosag.hu.
